Pinterest Best Practices for Wedding Pros

Pinterest has become a vital platform for wedding professionals to showcase their work, inspire couples, and attract clients.

We know that couples and their entourage use Pinterest daily, scrolling through curated content and searching for specific keywords. However, you’d be surprised to know that most wedding pros either don’t use Pinterest enough or fail to utilize it as a marketing strategy!

With aesthetic appeal and a vast user base, Pinterest offers ripe opportunities to engage with your target audience. The company has reported that over 40 million users use the platform to plan their weddings, making over 378 million wedding-related searches per year—wow! Pinterest is also a search engine. Believe it or not, it’s the third-largest search engine in the world, right behind Google and YouTube!

Knowing this, you’re probably wondering how to use Pinterest strategically to market and grow your wedding business. Luckily, that’s why I’m here! As an award-winning event planner and wedding business coach, I know the best practices to help you uplevel your Pinterest game—so you can watch new inquiries pour into your inbox. Let’s get started!

How to Use Pinterest Marketing to Attract Wedding Clients:

Pinterest Loves Fresh Content

Diversifying your pin content is crucial to attracting new followers and engaging your existing audience. Always aim for a mix of fresh and captivating pins that offer something for everyone. That means you need to focus on pinning your original content! The mistake I see so many wedding pros making is using Pinterest strictly for saving inspiration and client “mood boards.” While curating an aesthetic is fun, your content can and should live on Pinterest! Not to mention that your content will have a much longer shelf life on Pinterest than on Instagram.

Highlight unique details and decor inspiration from your past weddings. These authentic visuals that don’t come from a styled shoot help potential clients envision their special day! Above all, aim to pin fresh, original content 70-80% of the time. For the remaining 20-30%, you can throw in a few inspirational or on-brand pins.

What is a fresh pin?

“Fresh” pins are images and videos that Pinterest hasn’t seen before.

Post 5-8 Times Per Day

Gone are the days of pinning 25+ times per day! Pinterest wants quality content on its platform, so the algorithm will reward you for pinning less. 5-8 pins per day is the sweet spot!

For the 20-30% of purely inspirational pins, always keep your ideal client in mind and aim for a consistent, curated aesthetic. For example, if that client loves film photography, stick to muted colors and soft textures. That way, the couples you want to attract will be drawn to your feed as the algorithm seeks to show them engaging content.

Link Back to YOUR CONTENT

If you want your Pinterest marketing efforts to lead to increased website traffic, you need to link your pins to a URL. The best place to route them to is a blog post, portfolio gallery, or even your Instagram posts.

Informative pins linking to an in-depth blog post on the topic always perform well. Moreover, pins overlaid with text receive more saves and clicks than image-only pins. Text pins are saved to be reviewed for their useful info. Image based pins are saved strictly for the inspiration photo and less often visited.

If you aren’t blogging yet, you also have the option to link to a portfolio of your past work. Looking to start blogging? Get my FREE Wedding Biz Blog Planning Guide!

Pro tip

Don’t forget to claim your domains on Pinterest, so that yoru work is attributed correctly to your account. This will also allow you to change pin descriptions for better keyworded captions.

Create Boards and Board Sections

Pinterest boards allow you to categorize your pins to help pinners and potential clients find what they’re looking for faster. You can even divide your boards into specific subcategories! For example, if you have a “wedding flowers” board, you can divide it into niche categories like bouquets, boutonnieres, ceremony flowers, reception flowers, etc.
